Daniel Foxx: Edinburgh Fringe Festival - Review

What to watch at Fringe! Daniel Foxx: How Lovely. 

Is there anything that Daniel Foxx can't do? Stand-up comedian, stage writer, content creator, podcaster and author, Daniel Foxx is an absolutely remarkable comedian who has brought his second show, "How Lovely". to Edinburgh Fringe – and it is an absolute must watch.

Daniel is already known for being utterly hilarious – his hit podcast "Welcome to Hell", the wonderful musical "Unfortunate", his book "Bedtime Stories for Privileged Children" (with his second book coming soon) and his brilliant online sketches to name but a few examples – but there's something quite different about "How Lovely". His previous show, "Villain", was about how every villain ever written is gay and was a mix of camp humour and songs, but "How Lovely". Is more personal and intimate in nature; it's still absolutely hilarious, witty and sharp, but it's impossible to not fall for Daniel's unmistakable charm as he regales the audience with Hinge horror stories and (quite rightly) jumps to the defence of rom-coms.

Daniel is a brilliant storyteller. You can't help but feel invested as you hear the tales of love, break ups and terrible dates, with every twist in the story getting a gasp from the crowd before the inevitable laughter. He's charismatic and magnetic to watch but also gloriously self-deprecating, making this show highly relatable as well as relentlessly funny.

Whether he's talking about his love for the 90s rom com or the horrors of amateur puppet makers, Daniel is energetic and brings a fun, gossipy vibe to each anecdote. This is a man who truly understands the trials and tribulations of modern dating, and whilst there is certainly a feeling of "oh no what is left for me on these dating apps now", there's also a really lovely, hopeful vibe to the show – maybe, just maybe, there's a Mr-Darcy-climbing-out-of-a-lake for all of us out there somewhere. Having sold out several shows, both at Fringe and on tour, it's no surprise that this was such a brilliantly chic, concerningly relatable and laugh out loud funny show.

I have been lucky enough to see Daniel live several times, and he really does just get better and better. If you enjoy sharp, relatable, energetic humour, you're sure to fall in love with "How Lovely".

Daniel Foxx will be at Edinburgh Fringe until the 16^th of September and on tour across the UK until early 2027, and I cannot recommend this show enough. How Lovely it would be for you to experience this show for yourself.
