"It was Raccoon City's last chance. My last chance. My last escape." – A review of Resident Evil 3.

How do you improve on two brilliant games? Resident Evil one and two were iconic, and the fear with a franchise is that it'll eventually get stale, that it will continue until it's tired… Was that the case with Resident Evil 3?

Not even a little bit.

Developed and published by Capcom, and originally released in 1999 original, Resident Evil 3 delivers a tense, action-packed experience that builds upon the legacy of its predecessors. Set during the chaos of Raccoon City's viral outbreak, Resident Evil 3 follows the determined Jill Valentine as she attempts to escape the city. The story unfolds through intense encounters, with Jill's resilience and resourcefulness central to the story. Alongside her, Carlos Oliveira provides support and depth, offering you multiple perspectives on the disasters unfolding around you.

Nemesis, the relentless bio-engineered weapon, serves as the game's antagonist. His imposing presence ensures a constant sense of danger, frequently forcing you into adrenaline-fuelled confrontations. Nemesis's unpredictability makes every encounter memorable, which contributes to the game's atmosphere and tension. The villain's design and behaviour reinforces the survival horror experience, keeping you on your toes throughout.

Just like the first two games, Resident Evil 3 is full of exploration, puzzles and action. It's definitely more streamlined though; here you can find fast paced encounters and cinematic moments within detailed environments. The music is atmospheric and well-timed, which only heightens the suspense, immersing you in the unsettling world of Raccoon City.

So, is Resident Evil 3 perfect? Of course not. I do find that there's less exploration, which is a shame as it has slightly less replayability. With that said, it's got a memorable villain, compelling characters and a hell of a lot to love. If you're yet to discover this game, I cannot recommend it enough.
