What to watch at Fringe! A review of David Ian: Bad Decisions.

Stand-up comedian, co-founder of the Queer Comedy Club and co-host of the brilliant "This Is My Baby" podcast, David Ian is an absolutely remarkable comedian who has brought his new show, "Bad Decisions" to Edinburgh Fringe this year, and it is an absolute masterclass in crowd work.

Crowd work shows are often hit and miss for me, but David Ian's "Bad Decisions" is an incredible example of how to do it well. Following on from several sold-out Fringe runs, "Bad Decisions" asks the audience – what's the worst decision you've ever made? What keeps you up at night? What made it such a terrible decision? David is quick to respond to a crowd, offering insights into his own decisions (was missing a date to eat an 8-person birthday cake to celebrate Cher's birthday a bad decision or an iconic move?) and his hilarious and sometimes out-of-pocket opinions on the choices his audience has made.

The beauty of this show is that you will never see the same one twice. Each night, David's audience changes, as do the confessions, regrets, big life choices and most unhinged decisions, all admitted to in front of a group of strangers. David's lightning quick ability to bounce off of his audience is incredible to watch; he's sharp, witty and has an unmatched ability to interact with his audience, drawing out the sort of confessions that (some, definitely not me of course) audience members would likely have thought they were taking to the grave. Outrageous at times, genuinely moving at others, this is such a great show from a brilliant comedian.

Having seen David Ian perform several times, I can confirm that this is his best work to date. Whether you're there on a sold-out night or a slightly quieter one, you are absolutely guaranteed an evening of outrageous conversations and laugh out loud moments, the perfect way to end the day in Edinburgh.

You can see David Ian's "Bad Decisions" at 11:45pm until the 29th of August at Hoots, Potterrow. It would be a truly bad decision to miss this.
