"If I lay here" – A review of Snow Patrol.
I really enjoy Snow Patrol. A British alt rock band formed in 1994 in Dundee, Scotland, the band is currently made up of Gary Lightbody (vocals), Nathan Connolly (lead guitar), Paul Wilson (bass), Jonny Quinn (drums), and Johnny McDaid (keyboard, guitar). Over the years, the lineup has evolved and changed, but Gary Lightbody has remained the driving force behind the band's signature sound.
Snow Patrol was founded as "Shrug" by Gary Lightbody, Mark McClennand and Michael Morrison at the University of Dundee in 1994, but this name of course didn't last, and in 1997, they were renamed to "Polarbear" before finally settling on "Snow Patrol". A year later, in 1998, the band released their debut album "Songs for Polarbears", but mainstream success came in 2003 with the release of “Final Straw", with the album including several hits, such as "Run" and “Chocolate”.
The most successful album came in 2006 – "Eyes Open", the album that brought Snow Patrol international fame. The album featured the absolutely beautiful single, "Chasing Cars", which remains one of my favourite songs to this day, but was also full of emotionally charged songs with gorgeous sweeping melodies, such as "Open Your Eyes". This was an album full of heartfelt lyrics, emotional themes and introspective writing, so it's no surprise that it marked a real turning point in their career.
Since then, there have been several new albums and lots of touring, and Snow Patrol has earned significant recognition throughout their career. They won the Meteor Music Award for Best Irish Band and Album in 2005 and 2007, as well as an Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically for "Chasing Cars" in 2007. The band has received multiple BRIT Award nominations, including Best British Group and Best British Album, and their music has been featured in several films and television series, further cementing their status in pop culture.
Snow Patrol is a pretty special band. They're able to create emotional anthems of songs, and they've truly secured their place as one of the UK's most loved bands. With a career which has lasted over two decades and music that has connected with fans around the globe, it's no surprise that they have received so much critical acclaim and success.
